Email on your Mobile Phone

Right now you’re nobody on the web unless you have an email account. It’s still the main form of communication and you’re asked it every time you want to sign up somewhere.

So how do I use email on my mobile? You have to use the phone’s function that allows you to use emails. Although its exact location varies from phone to phone, it’s normally under the SMS messaging icon. Once you’re there you just have to use “options” to create a new account by entering your name and whatever information they ask for.

After this you enter in the incoming and outgoing servers (once you’ve selected POP3) and find the server addresses for your email provider. For example, for gmail the incoming is pop.gmail.com using SSL with port 995, and the outcoming is smtp.gmail.com using SSL with port 465, while for hotmail, incoming is pop3.live.com using SPA with port 995 and outgoing is smtp.live.com using SSL with port 25. For Yahoo and Yahoo Plus it’s pop.mail.yahoo.com using SSL with port 110 and plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com using SSL with port 995 for incoming, and smtp.mail.yahoo.com using SSL with port 25 and plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com using SSL with port 465, use authentication for outcoming.

This is more or less the same process as when you set up an email account to run on your PC with Outlook or any other email program. From now on you should be able to send and receive emails, but if you still can’t, don’t worry, just make sure your GPRS is set up properly or have another look at the settings you’ve entered.

The last thing you have to do is to use the web interface to make sure POP3 is enabled in your email’s settings.
